Welcome to one of the most spectacular and special places in Western Canada. Fernie offers the genuine charm of a historic small town, and boasts an unparalleled outdoor experience in every season.
In summer, adventurers flock here for fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking, golf, rafting and kayaking; in the winter Fernie is a playground for skiers and snowboarders.
Our community has charmed a different sort of adventurer: one who appreciates cultural activities as well as mountain recreation, and likes to watch the world go by as slowly as possible. As you stroll through the historic downtown, you’ll notice the unhurried pace and friendly smiles set amid turn-of-the-century buildings. It’s all part of the unique experience of visiting our mountain playground.

2004 is an extra special year. Fernie Alpine Resort was named “North American Resort of the Year”; Fernie was recently recognized as a cultural capital of Canada and is celebrating the Year of the Coal Miner; our restaurants have received international awards; and Fernie is celebrating its Centennial. Many events and activities will commemorate our first 100 years and you are invited to celebrate with us.
